Tagged on Facebook? Oh, the paranoia…

About 10:30 last night, every device I own started beeping furiously, while email after email popped into my inbox telling me that I was being tagged in Facebook pictures.Β There is something slightly terrifying about being tagged, because you just don’t have any control over what is going to surface. I never know if it is going to be a cute picture of my kids at the Critter Barn or an obnoxious picture of me with frizzy hair from junior high. Case in point…

Or this stunning snapshot…

And this one, in case I forgot my pixie hair cut days…

These are pictures that I probably would never choose to share. They bring back memories of those awkward times in my life…times where I felt self-conscious about my thick glasses, times when I felt unattractive, times when I felt like I looked like a boy, times that I would rather keep under wraps instead of putting it out there for everyone to see.

But maybe that’s where I am wrong. Maybe I need to stop being so paranoid and start being proud of my past. Yes, I had plenty of dorky years (so did everyone else), but I also had amazing friends and experiences that shaped who I am today. Yes, I had plenty of interesting hairstyles (especially when I was growing out that darn pixie), but when it was super short – I rocked it.

So bring on the tagging, Facebook world…I am ready for whatever you throw my way…

  1. I had the Pixie years myself. Loved my hair!! I was an Athletic Trainer in college working with the Football team (in Texas). 2-a-days in the heat is not so much fun in Texas. I already had short hair, so I just decided to go to Sport Clips and have them use an electric razor to shave it off. I think my hair was 1 inch off the top of my head. πŸ™‚ The football team nicknamed me “Spike.” Great memories!

I’m said tagger. In 2 of the pictures anyway. And I think you look great in all 3 of the pictures! I love it when people tag me in pictures – it shows me they were thinking of me and cared enough to remind me of the fun times we had in times past.
And no one can deny that I’m an equal opportunity tagger. I tag myself in very awkward stages (see above picture of me in purple dress). I figure that if people mind being tagged, they can either untag themselves or set their privacy settings so no one can tag them without approval. Until then, I’ll happily tag my friends and relatives so they can rest assured that I don’t ever forget about them. Love you!!

    1. Oh Lisa…no need to slink in…:) It is definitely not your problem that I’m paranoid about the past…I just need to snag myself a bit more self-confidence like you, eh? And you are right…the fact that you take the time to scan, post, tag, etc…is a pretty clear statement that you care about the people in the pictures. I think the more interesting part is all the comment conversation that comes up as a result of the pictures being posted…like Stolly having a baby, where’s Darin, bgates chiming in…you bring people together!! πŸ™‚ So…no worries…keep posting them and I’ll work on my paranoia…deal?? Love you too…
