on turning 33…my bonus year…

Last week I turned 33, which came as sort of a surprise to me. Somehow, I thought I had turned 33 last year. Not sure why, other than I thought 32 sounded too young, but whatever the reason, I have decided to call this year my “bonus year”.

This offers some unique possibilities. I’m not going to do anything extreme like go vegan or order up PX90 or try to read through the Bible in 90 days. Not that there is anything wrong with loftier goals, but I’m simply not that tough. My sister who is vegan…she is tough. Friends who let PX90 kick their tail with awesome results…they are tough. Me? Not so much.

But I do have a few ideas for my bonus year. Simple ideas.

Remember what is important. God…family…friends…community…

Keep a balanced life. And not feel guilty about it…work when I work and play when I play…

Spend time doing things I love. Skip the rest…seriously skip it…

Let myself off the hook. I can be okay with clutter, an extra 10 pounds, and eating Peeps…

Start what I finish. Can I please just finish my kid’s first year scrapbooks once and for all?

Stop worrying about what others think. No one is “doing it all”…no one…

Hopefully, I will come back next year and be able to say that I grew closer to God…spent time on the right things…and made a difference in the lives of the people around me, especially my kids. That is what I want to do with my bonus year…and you can hold me to it.
