Remnants of Christmas

I see remnants of Christmas everywhere I look.

Pine needles on the carpet that I haven’t had time to vacuum…

Piles of candy leftover from gingerbread houses and stockings…

Stacks of new toys that haven’t found a home…

Half-full bottles of Evian in the fridge from my Mom’s visit…

Dust outlines on my side table where the nativity scene used to sit…

All these things will soon be dusted, organized, and consumed (maybe not all the candy), but I hope that I will not carefully pack away the miracle of Christmas. I pray that I will keep the life-giving message of Jesus front and center in our home. I want my kids to remember that Jesus didn’t stay a helpless baby in a stable, but He grew in “wisdom and stature” and ultimately sacrificed Himself for us.

Not a remnant…the rest of the story…
