So, my friend Maggie over at Pink Shoes posted “Things I Do/Things I Don’t” over the last two days and I decided to jump on the bandwagon and create my own list. Today? Things I do on a pretty regular basis…
I….
1. Read books in the bathroom…and while I dry my hair…
2. Carry random things in my back pockets…money, credit cards, to-do lists, fruit snacks, and other paraphernalia.
3. Buy apps like they are going out of style…sometimes for myself, but mostly for my kids. I don’t even want to know how much money I have spent since I got my first iPhone 3 years ago.
4. Overcommit on a regular basis. I’m working on it.
5. Plan my weekly meals & go grocery shopping every Sunday so we can make family dinners a priority, even if it means plying the kids with snacks so they can wait to eat until Ben gets home.
6. Drink Diet Coke, even though I know it’s just not that good for you. I wish I could stomach drinking hot, bitter drinks to get my caffeine fix, really I do.
7. Shave my legs every day.
8. Pick up crumbs from the floor with my bare hands…regularly. Don’t know why I don’t just go get my Dustbuster? Bizarre.
9. Jump into projects with reckless abandon…and figure it out later. Blogs, art tents, projects, cleaning…I’m sure it drives everyone around me nuts.
10. Try to limit the kids to two 20-minute shows a day, but heavens knows that doesn’t always fly.
11. Try to roll with my kid’s ideas, whether they want to make marshmallow snowmen, try to sell “fruit soup” on the front stoop, or create their own movie script…
12. Live vicariously through participants on reality competition shows…Project Runway, Top Chef, Next Iron Chef, Next Food Network Star.
13. Sing songs with Fiona every night before bed. Our repertoire includes Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle Twinkle, God is So Good, ABCs, Kum-Ba-Ya, and Silent Night.
14. Make homemade banana bread, but use frozen bread dough for everything else. I just can’t seem to master the art of yeast bread, and that is just annoying.
15. Read books with my kids every day. I love that they love it too.
16. Wash laundry & iron everything once a week. Every Wednesday night is ironing night…
17. Write little things that the kids do on my whiteboard calendar…and take a picture of it before I erase it.
18. Be purposeful about getting out with Ben and our friends. It’s amazing how much more centered I feel after a night out.
19. Keep too many messages in my inbox…the count right now? 697 messages. It’s ridiculous.
20. Write to-do lists everywhere – on scraps of paper, post-it notes, envelopes, countless notepads, and occasionally on my hand. Someday I will create the perfect to-do list pad that will solve the problems of busy moms everywhere. I have the idea written down on a to-do list somewhere…
That’s my list for today…come back tomorrow for “things I don’t do”…
I love this! I saw Maggie’s the other day, and thought about doing it too. I may have to do it during this month of blogging. I recognize several things in your list from college 🙂
Looking forward to seeing your “don’t” list tomorrow!
Really? From college? Have I really changed so little? 🙂

I sincerely like this concept for a post. It’s very honest, and fun to read!
Thanks for checking it out!
Shave your legs everyday! You are a good woman! I can manage my armpits—but the legs………that’s commitment!
I never said that I spent tons of time on it – some days it is a very quick swipe…:)
