I mentioned in the previous posting that Madi has not napped the entire week. This has been a serious blow to my emotional well-being. When you go through the entire rigamarole of putting a kid down for a nap…potty, two stories, prayer, song, story, kiss…and then runs down the hallway five minutes later, it is deflating. Plus, I always have my “naptime list” ready to go, and when it sits untouched for 3-4 days? Sigh.
Wednesday morning, I really felt like I was about to unravel…no naps, the kids were squabbling about toys, and I felt like I wasn’t getting anything accomplished. So, we hit the road…
…and headed to Storytime at the EGR Library. It was a good move, because the kids really enjoy it. Parker plops right down on his carpet square, and takes his job of watching the other kids very seriously. Madi sings all of the songs this year…even loud enough for me to hear her! The craft was something both kids could do…gluing feathers onto a picture of a chicken. I was so proud of Parker helping me brush on the glue and smashing down the feathers all by himself.
Then we went to Big Boy for lunch. I have never taken the kids there, but I had a coupon for a free hamburger, so we checked it out. I was pleasantly surprised at how kid-friendly it was! They have a great kids menu and give out a comic/activity book during the meal and a sticker/activity book when you leave. Wow! Plus, there were plenty of elderly customers for Parker to charm…
Our last stop? The dance supply store, because Madi is going to take a dance class this summer. It totally brought back memories from when I took dance class as a kid. We had to buy ballet shoes, tap shoes, and a leotard/tights combo. Madi picked out a bright purple leotard, of course, and was a little confused at first about the difference between her new tap shoes and her black dress shoes that also go tip-tap on our wooden floor.
It was such a good morning, and it completely changed my perspective. Instead of feeling trapped and frustrated, I was refreshed and reminded that I have two wonderful kids that I love dearly, and so thankful for the opportunity to be able to spend my days tooling around town or relaxing at home with them. Yes, it can be challenging, and I definitely need “me” time on a regular basis, and I really need to figure out my next move with Madi’s naptime, but it’s worth the aggravation…well, most of the time…
