A proud wife…

At the end of June, Ben left his comfortable job as an equity partner at a mid-sized law firm here in Grand Rapids to create Hilger Hammond, a two-man law firm specializing in construction law.

Basically, they are being recognized as an up and coming law firm in the Grand Rapids law arena….and it’s made for a pretty wild ride the last few months. It isn’t just a new job…it is a new lifestyle. He has to not only bill hours and keep his clients happy, but also do things like change light bulbs, buy furniture, and the other 998 things that go into running a business.

It has been very cool…and the best thing has been to watch Ben be so invigorated by the challenge. Making decisions…plotting the course…seeing results…hard, but satisfying work. I have always…and will always be proud of Ben, whatever happens, but this whole experience has given me an extra injection of pride. He is a great leader, pays attention to details, and isn’t afraid of hard work. Aside from that, he still remembers that his family is the reason for all of it…and has the actions to back it up. (He has the sore muscles from wrestling with the kids and the receipts from grocery shopping for me to prove it.)

So, here’s to the future of Hilger Hammond, guaranteed to be a success, considering the names on the door…at least in this humble wife’s opinion…
