Today I am linking up with The Gypsy Mama for Five Minute Friday to talk about “real”. My job? Write for five minutes…no editing, no over thinking, no worries.
And go…
Real.
Being real is the rolls of fat that keep multiplying from the extra donuts at the grocery store and late night handfuls of chocolate and butterscotch chips.
Being real is the dry scalp that I just can’t seem to beat in the winter and barely manage in the summer.
Being real is the gaping cracks in my heels from walking around barefoot and in flip flops and from the genes that course through my veins.
Being real is plucking eyebrows and chins while my kids watch in horror and amazement.
Being real is the stacks of paperwork and clutter that regenerate in every corner of my kitchen and dining room, and don’t ever seem to disappear.
Being real is hanging onto things that have far outlived their usefulness, like worn out shoes, too-small kids clothes with stains, and serving dishes that I “might” use someday.
Being real is the feeling that I won’t be able to re-instate myself back into the workforce someday…that I have been out too long, gotten too used to my life, won’t want to have a boss…
Being real is the physical, mental, parenting, emotional shortcomings that I wish I could paint a heavy coat of “soft focus” over so that those around me only see me through a fog.
I try so desperately sometimes to be a carefully sanitized version of myself, when the real version is enough…imperfections and all.
I know about hold to things aren’t any use, but they’re so comforting sren’t they, like the shoes . What a well told story.
Agreed…comfort comes with holding on to what is familiar, but I find that the more I do that, there is less space for what should be there…thanks for visiting!
I for real like plucking my eyebrows. Isn’t that weird? Good post! Made me think about how others may percieve how I live.
Usually the perceptions are way off too! 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
Chocolate and butterscotch chips? I’m going to have to try that. Sounds like the perfect snack!
It’s pretty tasty, I admit. 🙂
