When my friend Maggie put out her “Pinterest Challenge” to actually do some of the things that you pin, I threw my hat into the ring. There is just something about the word “challenge” that sucks me in. Plus, I had my eye on a few things that looked relatively simple, at least by looking at the image.
I don’t know why I haven’t learned this yet, but it is a bad idea to decide to do something on Pinterest without following the link to the original site. This was my original pin:
The description read something to the effect, “Use a sharpie to create the image on the glass”, which sounded easy-peasy. But once I followed the link, I realized that it was a bit more complicated than that. It was a full size window…the image was cut out of felt…and I wasn’t up for either.
So we improvised.
My Mom bought Madi a duvet cover for her new room that has some cute flowers on it, so I took an old picture frame, placed the glass on top of the flower that Madi picked out, and traced it with a black Sharpie onto the glass. Then Madi colored the image in with my colored Sharpies to match her duvet. (I should have flipped it over so the black had no chance to bleed, but it turned out okay.) Then, we chose a coordinating blue paper to put in the actual picture frame, and voila…we were done!
Now she can put her original (signed) artwork in her room once we move in!
It might not be exactly like the original “pin”, but Madi had fun, and it led to Parker wanting to do one too…not something that would match his room, but one of a Lion King picture. (Crazy kid…)
Next up? I found a few things that I am pretty sure we can accomplish, and yes…I did check out the original websites first…
1. Paper Clip Bookmarks: Madi keeps half-read books all over the house, so I thought this might be a good way to replenish our bookmark stockpile. Plus, I have tons of scraps of ribbon lying around, so I would only need to buy a small box of paper clips.
2. Scavenger Hunt for Walks: I love this idea…or any variation of it…for walks, playing outside, or the park. The site has a free printable, so there is really no excuse!
3. Soft Sugar Cookies: Since I haven’t made much dessert lately, these cookies jumped off my “Bake it…” board. Don’t they look beautiful and yummy?
What’s your “pin-spiration”? Thanks to Maggie, I am putting mine to good use…
Aww, madi’s artwork turned out really cute!!!
Parker’s is also pretty spectacular…:)
