It has been three days since we returned from a week-long vacation to visit my grandparents in Ely, MN, and I have been thinking about how I want to remember the trip. It definitely had some rough moments, including a teething baby, bee-stung lips (literally), and a broken travel DVD player.
But then I thought about the boat ride we took with my grandpa…
…watching the sunlight reflect off the water like tiny jewels while I held a sleeping baby in my arms. I had a choice, and I decided to focus my memory on the moments that sparkled in my mind like glittering sunshine instead…
A proud fisherman…
Learning to say “cheese”…
Celebrating in true small town fashion…
A nephew’s quiet smile…
Breathtaking sunsets…
And then…there are only so many moments you can capture with a camera lens…others come unexpectedly. The thrill of finishing a race in the driving rain…the relaxation from soaking in the hotel hot tub with uninterrupted conversation…the satisfaction of eating homemade bratwurst from Zup’s…the thrill of watching the kids explore my grandparent’s cabin just like I did as a kid…the comfort of sitting around the kitchen table talking about mining, fishing, and avoiding politics…
These jewels are keepers…
Thanks for the reminder to focus on the small positive things! You are such a great writer!
Thanks Becky! Life would be difficult to handle if you couldn’t find those good things woven in!
