Parker has never been too keen on animals, but lately this dislike has grown into more of a terror. He used to hear dogs barking and he would perk up and go “ruff ruff” too, but now when he hears a dog, he gets all worked up, looking around frantically for where the dog is.
Last Saturday, we joined the madness at our local apple joint – Robinette’s Apple Haus – where they were having horse drawn hayrides. Parker couldn’t be anywhere near the horses; he kept trying to crawl up and over Ben’s shoulder and was shaking uncontrollably. However, he did recover enough to sit in the back of the wagon where he couldn’t really tell that horses were pulling it, so that he could go on the ride with Madi and Josiah. But the minute he saw the horses again after we were done? The squirming began…
It’s not just big animals either – he flipped out the other day when Madi was playing with her little toy lion cub that mews and moves his head up and down when you pet him. He took one look at the furry animal and dashed behind me as quickly as he could.
Oh, but the plot thickens…we were at a friend’s house yesterday, and their crawling son headed towards Parker to play. What did Parker do? He climbed on top of the nearest phone book and acted like he was scared of Isaac too. Isn’t that strange?
So…anything that has fur or makes animal sounds or is smaller than him…scares the stuffing out of him. I don’t know what to do about it, except hope that he grows out of it…any other ideas out there?
