Five Minute Friday: Path

Today I am linking up with The Gypsy Mama for Five Minute Friday to talk about “Path”. My job? Write for five minutes…no editing, no over thinking, no worries. She calls it a “writing flash mob”…I like that.

Go…
He shuffles up the dusty road, the wooden beams cutting into the shredded skin on his back. The pain threatens to blind Him until he looks up and sees where He is headed. A hill with a post hole dug for His cross. A patch of ground where He would take His final breaths.

In that moment, He must decide to either look back at the blood trickling down the back of His legs and simply muscle His way through what “must be done”, or look around. Look around and see the people who are lining the path. Tell the women who weep to be comforted. Murmur words of blessing to the man who takes the cross. Instruct the disciples to care for each other. Turn his focus to others, because he knows the end of the story. He knows that they are the reason for the pain and the ones He loves completely.

I want to be like that man. I want to turn my eyes away from the momentary struggles of each day, to look up from the stress and discouragement and pain and love those around me. Reach back for those who are weak and exhausted. Encourage instead of retreat. Love instead of wallow.

Keep me on the path, Lord…I want to be like You.

  1. Rachel, this is great… inspiring… and so true! How beautiful that we should want to be like Him, eyes taken from our momentary messes on the path and instead focused on our goal– living like Him, in Him, for Him. So glad I stopped by from FMF! Blessings to you sister!
