Five Minute Friday: Opportunity

Today I am linking up with The Gypsy Mama for Five Minute Friday to talk about “Opportunity”. My job? Write for five minutes…no editing, no over thinking, no worries.

Go…

I jogged slowly down the road, following the white line up and down hills, past flowering weeds and ducks swimming. Opportunities swam in front of my eyes as I let my mind wander. How was I going to use my gifts? Where was I going to be spending my time? How could I make a difference outside of myself, in the wide world of hurt and pain? How could I see through the Spirit’s eyes and take those chances?

My eyes rose from the road to take in the sun setting behind the trees, the sparkling water, and my home in the distance and I was reminded that perhaps my opportunities didn’t have to be so grandiose, so much bigger than me. Maybe they are, and maybe they will be, but my opportunity right here…right now…are to be consistent with my kids, loving to my husband, and faithful in my responsibilities. I have the chance to keep putting one foot in front of the other, to be an example, to ask for the Spirit to empty me of myself and and fill me up with the sweet Spirit.

I don’t want to miss what is sitting right in front of me.

  1. Beautiful sentiment, Rachel.
Opportunities don’t have to be grandiose – they can also be the beauty of the ducks in that pond – the warmth of the setting sun on your back. Glad I had the opportunity to meet you this Friday!
    Blessings,
    Felecia
